Hello! I’m Melissa Temple and I want to earn your vote for Nebraska legislature here in District 19.

As an independent, I firmly believe in putting people over politics. I’m running because I believe our elected officials should be held to a higher standard: prioritizing transparency, being good stewards of our state’s resources, and creating policies that open up more opportunities for Nebraskans to achieve the good life.

I want to give voters an alternative choice outside the broken boxes of our two party system. I believe leadership is first and foremost about service. I am running for the legislature as an independent candidate in order to make thoughtful decisions on behalf of my constituents, not tied to partisan politics. Being conservative and compassionate are not mutually exclusive, and my faith tradition compels me to work towards justice for the most vulnerable in our community and address social issues with empathetic solutions.

Mel’s Priorities

Healthcare Accessibility

Access to high-quality, affordable healthcare resources is critical to our communities' overall physical and economic well-being. I will advocate for legislation that ensures rural and urban Nebraskans can easily access medical care, maternal and postpartum services, and programs and policies that prioritize mental health and support individuals with disabilities because all Nebraskans deserve a chance at the Good Life.

Protecting Our
Natural Resources

Nebraska’s agricultural industry is the bedrock of our state, and the legislature must do everything in its power to ensure that our natural resources are protected so we may continue our rich history of feeding America’s families. Additionally, clean and healthy groundwater is a necessary resource to nourish our crops and our families, and yet we’ve seen senators ignore issues that need to be addressed if we want to keep our communities healthy. I will prioritize public health legislation that protects the resources that make Nebraska a great place to live, work and play.

Supporting Teachers, Students & Parents

We all want what’s best for our children and an excellent educational system is key to ensuring the next generation of Nebraskans can succeed and help keep our state strong. As an educator I believe we must do all we can to recruit and retain great teachers, invest in the academic and mental health of our students, and advocate for wrap-around services - like food programs and safety protections - that make it easier for them to learn and thrive.

Flourishing Communities

Every hardworking Nebraskan deserves to be able to provide for themselves and their families. But the rising cost of housing and basic necessities, along with Nebraska’s high property taxes can make it hard for folks to get ahead. I’m a renter who understands what it’s like to work multiple jobs to cover the bills and struggle to find an affordable home to buy. When I’m elected I’ll fight for responsible tax reform that protects the programs and services that impact the many, but find new solutions and funding sources that help reduce the burden placed on every day Nebraskans.
